POW #1: How Many Coconuts? A monkey and his owner have collected 3000 coconuts. They want to sell their coconuts in the nearby city 1000 miles away. The monkey 1s going to travel across the oasis carrying as many coconuts as it can to the other side. The monkey is tiercely strong and can carry 1000 coconuts at a time. However, if it has coconuts with it, the monkey cannot resist and will eat one coconut every mile it walks. In the absence of any coconuts, the monkey will happily walk as far as needed to get more coconuts. Assuming the monkey is the only means of transportation used, what is the maximum number of coconuts the monkey can get across the oasis? How does the monkey do it? Explain how you arrived at your answer. Please remember to refer to the POW rubric when composing your response (printed on the back). Hint: The monkey can leave the coconuts anywhere along the route and come back for them.
