3. What were some motives of European imperialism? European imperialism was motivated by economics, politics, and culture. Economically, Europeans wanted a reliable source of raw materials for industrial products, such as tin. Politically, European countries wanted to stake claims in lands overseas for harbors, supply stations, or for military reasons. Culturally, missionaries wanted to introduce Christianity to the native people and bring them “civilization.”

4. What technology did Europeans utilize during imperialism? Europeans brought medical advances, such as quinine, which treated malaria. Europeans also created canals and steam power transportation. In addition, Europeans brought machine guns and created strong naval bases to countries under their imperialism.
