A dying patient is clearly deeply in denial about the severity of the patient's condition, and the patient's family members seem either to share in the denial or to be deeply troubled by it. One family member who isn't in denial asks you what you can do. What should you tell the family member?
1) Tell the family member that you will make it clear to the patient and other family members that the patient is dying.
2) Say that you will provide basic medical assistance but that anything else is not part of your job.
3) Reassure the family member that the patient is acting normally and not to worry about it.
4) Say that you will get any help the family needs, including grief counseling.
