from Morte Darthur
::Background::
- One of Sir Thomas Malory's desires to capture his writing in the ideals which comprised medieval knighthood, and indeed he did just that in Morte Darthur (the death of Arthur).
- "King Arthur, a mythical Celtic king of early Britain, presumably defended the Celts against the Anglo-Saxon invaders. Many stories about him developed in the Middle Ages and were circulated in manuscripts. It was from such manuscripts that Malory wrote what has become the best compilation of stories surrounding King Arthur. The work remains an outstanding monument in English literature today" (38).
- This excerpt is towards the end of the story where Arthur kills Mordred but is mortally wounded in doing so.
