The following assignment requires you to use your imagination. Follow the directions carefully. It will be especially helpful if you have someone read these directions to you as you listen with your eyes shut.

Think of a place you know well and imagine yourself walking there. What time of year is it? What is the weather like? Do you hear, smell, or see anything as you walk? In the distance you see some kind of house or other dwelling. Think of a few specific words that describe it. Walk to it. Do you see, hear, or smell anything as you do? Enter it. Did you touch something--like a doorknob--as you entered? How did it feel? When you walk in, do any sights, smells, or sounds stand out? Someone is there. Who is it? What does he or she say? What kind of tone of voice is used? How do you reply?

Now write what you just imagined. You don't have to use every possible detail; in fact, it would be too much if you did; but pick out the significant details that create a vivid picture of this experience.
