The Supreme Court ruled in favor of juveniles to have the right/entitled to Due process, which is protected under the Fourteenth Amendment. This entitled the juvenile to legal representation, to be notified of the charges, they are protected from self-incrimination and are able to confront and cross-examine witnesses. This was important because it did rule in favor of Due process for juveniles and protect them from self-incrimination. This allows juveniles to know they do not have to talk without a lawyer and they have to be told why they are arrested, the charges. Before this ruling, juveniles were just put into a detention center. I think that the Supreme Court has done a good job with protecting the rights of juvenile delinquency suspects. I believe it is much better than it was in the past. If I was on the Supreme Court, I would get a life sentence for juveniles removed unless they were charged with murder or unless it is their second felony offense. I believe that juveniles can change their ways with the right counseling and support. Respond with opinion.
