Spattering is an inherent and undesired phenomenon in laser powder bed fusion. It can cause defects and quality uncertainty in the manufactured parts. The project aims to obtain a good understanding of spattering in additive manufacturing (AM), including its phenomenon, mechanism, reasons, effects on the quality of AM parts, and possible solutions. It should cover the following two aspects. 1. Through searching and reviewing relevant literature, analyze and synthesize the information gathered from different ources to develop a thorough understanding of spattering, focusing on several key aspects, including its formation mechanism, the factors that influence its occurrence, and its impact on the quality of AM parts. Identify and summarize major methods currently used to mitigate spattering in powder bed fusion additive manufacturing. Propose at least one additional possible solution to minimize spattering and provide a justification for the feasibility of the proposed solution, considering the underlying mechanisms of spattering
