Agents who represent producers are known as manufacturer's agents or sales agents. As long as they do not represent/carry competing products, manufacturer's agents or sales agents can represent several manufacturers in a specific territory.
An agent is able to represent different businesses because the products do not 
compete so they won't have to 'step on any toes' doing so. The different business they will be selling to will not carry the same items or likely even be in the same line of work as another business they represent items for.
