The European countries that colonized Southeast Asia are: British Empire, France, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. The British colonized most of what is now Burma, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore and Malaysia. The French colonized what is now Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. The Dutch colonized what is now Indonesia. The Portuguese colonized what is now East Timor. The Spanish colonized what are now the Philippines. The only country that was not colonized in this region was Siam, what is now Thailand.
