The effect of the Platt Amendment was that it “established a Civil Government in Cuba”. This was an amendment between the USA and Spain, which states that "The United States would end its military occupation of Cuba". Through this Amendment Cuba became the protectorate of the United States. This amendment provided the United States to lease or buy lands for establishing naval bases and coaling stations in Cuba.
