In general, mesentery is a double- fold of peritonial tissue that attaches organs to the wall of the body. It has three functions namely: (1) SUSPENSION- it suspends the small and large intestine from the posterior abdominal wall; pinning them in place while still allowing movements; (2) provides a conduit or passage for blood and lymphatic vessels and nerves. (3). Contended to play a pathological role in inflammatory disease such as Crohn's disease.

Therefore, mesentery is responsible for holding the intestines together.
