A skyscraper is 396 meters tall. At a cenrtain time of day, it casts a showdow that is 322 meters long. At what angle is the sun above the horizon at that time?

Respuesta :

do anybody know the answer to this problem
See image attached. There is a small right triangle formed by the skyscrapper, there is a big right triangle formed by the sun.
angle [tex]\theta[/tex] on a small and big triangle is the same.

To find the measure of the angle, use trigonometry ratio of tangent
[tex]\text{tan} \theta = \dfrac{\text{opposite}}{\text{adjacent}} [/tex]

plug in the numbers
[tex]\text{tan} \theta = \dfrac{396}{322} [/tex]
[tex]\theta = \text{tan}^{-1} \left({\dfrac{396}{322} \right)[/tex]
[tex]\theta = 50.884^{0}[/tex]
or approximately 50°
