causation, multiple causation and association are a source or errors while trying to understand issues in society.  one cause can result to multiple effects, and vice versa. a greater problem is association, where a problem can only be associated with an effect, yet a historian is unable to establish whether for real it was a  cause-effect continuum problem or merely an association.
