When studying cause and effect, historians usually group the causes into different categories. For example, reflect how a society’s literature and art convey the way the society saw itself in relation to the rest of the world. Another resource that historians use to understand society is , which tells them the trends and ideas that are preferred by the common people. When studying cause and effect, it’s important to remember , or the idea that an effect could have several causes and vice versa.

causation,multiple causation and association are a source or errors while trying to understand issues in society.  one cause can result to multiple effects, and vice versa. a greater problem is association, where a problem can only be associated with an effect,yet a historian is unable to establish whether for real it was a  cause-effect continuum problem or merely an association.
