Mr. Warren Clay Coleman, an African American and former Concord/Cabarrus country slave, started the Coleman Manufacturing Company. The company began from 1897 until 1904. This is the nation's first African-American-owned and operated textile factory in Concord/Cabarrus country, North Carolina, and the entire United States.
