The English settlers were able to gain a foothold in the early times of Chesapeake Colonies by receiving help from the Indians and learning on how to live as the earlier settlers. Even though at first, they were not successful, because of the Indians' help, they were able to adjust. They brought with them from England their necessities in order to survive and tried to learn how to live a sustainable lifestyle.

The English Settlers gain a foothold in the early Chesapeake Colonies by learning from mistakes of earlier settlers. At first, they were failing but with the help of the Indians they slowly learn and apply the methods and eventually gain a foothold. They brought what they needed to survive in England on how and what to cultivate and grow for a sustainable lifestyle and one of it is the tobacco economy.
