One use is to protect animals and people from diseases being contracted
from their environment. There are many diseases which are carried by
animals which are not vaccinated, and these can be passed to other
animals or people by contact with blood, feces, or saliva. Vaccines can
also be used to educate people and keep them up to date on the current
diseases in our environment and which are currently most prevalent. The
common diseases and strains of such diseases change from season to
season.
Sample Response:
Vaccines, which are given for bacterial and viral infections, are mixtures that contain either part of pathogens or whole pathogens that prepare the body's defenses to fight against the pathogens. Active immunization helps the body create defenses against the pathogen before an infection occurs. Passive immunization is given to people with a weakened immune system or to those who have an existing infection. Its temporary effects will provide the body with the necessary defenses to fight the pathogen.
