The congress of Vienna is also known as the Vienna congress. It was a conference for the European states’ ambassadors. The meeting was chaired by Klemens von Metternich, which is an Austrian statesman. The congress of Vienna was held from November 1814 until June 1815 in Vienna.

 

The delegates for the congress of Vienna had actually negotiated about the subjects from late September 1814. The main thing that was being discussed in the congress of Viena was to provide a long-term peace plan for Europe. This should be done by settling critical issues from the Napoleonic Wars and the French Revolutionary Wars.

 

The other goal for the congress, other than to bring back old boundaries, its purpose is also to resize the foremost powers. By resizing the main powers, they could balance each other, so that peace will be made. The result of the Vienna congress is that France lost all of its current conquests. Austria, Russia, and Prussia made a lot of major territorial expansions.  

 

Prussia got additional small German states that were located in the west. Austria gained northern Italy and Venice. Russia gained several parts of Poland. Austrian territory also gained the new Kingdom of the Netherlands that has just been created months ago. The Austrian territory then changed the name and became Belgium in 1830.
