A screen is divided in to millions of pixels. Their sizes are very small that human eye cant's detect individual pixels. So picture on the screen very smooth.

Resolution of 640 by 480 is with a matrix of  640 x 480 pixels =  307200 total pixels.

Each pixel can be one color at a time. So a 640 x 480 pixel image is a 307200 color image.
