Respuesta :

1. The red ball was potential energy until it was hit by the pendulum converting into kinetic energy.

2. The 5 pounds was a potential energy, until the rope was cut by the scissors, this made the 5 pounds become kinetic energy.

3. The bucket was a potential energy, till the books landed in it causing it to fall, this became kinetic energy

The three (3) examples, from the lab, where potential energy was converted to kinetic energy are:

1. A conical flask sitting on a lab table has potential energy, until it was hit by a student, thereby, converting it to kinetic energy.

2. A weight holding a mass of 5 kg has potential energy, but cutting the string would cause the mass to drop, converting it to kinetic energy.

3. A lab instructor sitting still on a chair has potential energy, until he walks to the chalkboard to write, converting it to kinetic energy.

Energy can be defined as the ability (capacity) to do work.

Hence, energy is only measured in Joules (J).

Generally, there are two (2) main types of energy and these are;

  • Potential energy (P.E): it is an energy possessed by an object or physical body due to its position (height) above the Earth.
  • Kinetic energy (K.E): it is an energy possessed by an object or physical body due to its motion.

According to the Law of Conservation of Energy, energy can neither be created nor destroyed but it can only be converted (transformed) from one form to another such as potential energy  to kinetic energy.

In this context, the three (3) examples, from the lab, where potential energy was converted to kinetic energy include:

  • A conical flask sitting on a lab table has potential energy, until it was hit by a student, thereby, converting it to kinetic energy.
  • A weight holding a mass of 5 kg has potential energy, but cutting the string would cause the mass to drop, converting it to kinetic energy.
  • A lab instructor sitting still on a chair has potential energy, until he walks to the chalkboard to write, converting it to kinetic energy.
