The Federalists favored the Constitution because it provided a strong central government.
At the time of the Articles of Confederation and Constitution, there were two major parties like what we have today; Federalists and Anti-Federalists, and both had very different views on how the government should be operated. Federalists primarily have views correlating to the left-wing of politics (Democrats), and favored a strong centralized government, uniting the smaller state governments under one authority. On the other hand, the Anti-Federalists opposed this centralized government, (fearing what had happened during the time of the colonies with England's tyranny) and advocated for smaller state governments to control their own territories. Their views correlate to the right-wing (Republicans).
