As Jose develops a sense of industry, he will feel confident in his abilities to achieve goals. According to Erikson's theory, there are 8 stage of psychological development of a human being. A child learn different ability in each stage of life. These 8 stage are:

  1. Trust vs. Mistrust (age: 0- 1.5 yrs)
  2. Autonomy vs. Shame (age: 1.5- 3 yrs)
  3. Initiative vs. Guilt (age: 3-5 yrs)
  4. Industry vs. Inferiority (age: 5- 12 yrs)
  5. Identity vs. Role Confusion (age: 12- 18 yrs)
  6. Intimacy vs. Isolation (age: 18- 40 yrs)
  7. Generativity vs. Stagnation (age: 40- 65 yrs)
  8. Ego Integrity vs. Despair (age: 65+ yrs)

So, between the age 5-12, a child possess stage of Industry vs. Inferiority. Industry means Competency or Successful in Skills. In contrary, Inferiority results due to failures. If a child is guided and encourage to learn, and praised by people, they develop a sense of pride or industry. But, if a child is not encourage or promote at this stage, a sense of inferiority develops.
