He should take the criticism, and shouldn't get defensive. He should take their criticism under consideration and try to do better.

Hope it helped!

When we work hard in a project we usually feel like it is near to perfection, this occurs because no one but us know all the effort and time we invested there, but the most of the time we have to share our final products with other people in order to receive feedback and critics about how good is it and which parts we should change or modify in order to improve our project. At this respect, there are two kinds of criticism:

  • Destructive criticism: This kind of criticism is negative; it doesn’t help you to improve your abilities or to learn something; instead of that it makes you feel sad and probably useless.
  • Constructive criticism: On the other hand, this kind of criticism is positive even if it includes your mistakes; its final purpose is to help you to improve your level and your work.

In the case that we have, Vice has first to decide what type of criticism is he receiving and make an analysis of the commentaries that had been made, if they are empty of good intentions he probably should ignore them and try to help the person who made it, but if he identifies constructive criticism there are some advices that he could follow to deal with them:

  • Try to identify where mistakes are: As constructive criticism, they are made to help us, so it is important to put all our attention to identify and later fix our errors.
  • Don’t make it personal: We have to remember that we are not the problem and that the criticism is not because our colleagues hate us; we have to remind that they are trying to help us to improve OUR WORK, not our life.
  • Make a plan: A good advice listener has to act in what has been said to him or her, so we need to plan how we are going to fix our mistakes.
  • Be humble: No one is perfect and we have to always remind it! Being humble thinks will appear easier for us when correcting our work.
  • Improve: As a symbol of gratitude with who helped us we need to modify our work in those aspects that it could be better.
