[tex]\mathrm{Divide\:both\:sides\:by\:}-14\\\frac{-14b}{-14}=\frac{56}{-14}\\\mathrm{Simplify}\\\frac{-14b}{-14}=b\\\frac{56}{-14}=-4\\b=-4[/tex]
remember that you can do anything to an equaiton as long as you do it to both sides
also remember that (+)/(-)=(-)
-14b=56
divide both sides by -14
(-14n)/-14=56/(-14)
(n)(-14/-14)=(56/14)(1/-1)
(n)(1)=(4)(-1)
n=-4
