Swanns sued the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education because they wanted their six-year-old son to attend Seversville Elementary School. Which was a few of racially integrated school in Charlotte and was the closest to their home, a federal district judge called James McMillan ruled the case in favor of the Swanns.
