In the 1960s, more than three million job-seeking African Americans moved from the South to the cities of the North and West. At the same time ocurred the most serious and widespread series of race riots in the history of the United States. Because of this, President Johnson to establish a National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders in 1967. The commission was set up to investigate the causes of race riots and identified white racism as the main cause of the riots.
