The NAACP was founded in 1909 and it is the oldest civil rights organization in the United States. The principal focus of the organization during the decades of  1920 and 1930 was to empower colored people to fight against social injustice such as denial of voting rights, discrimination in employment, racial violence and segregated public facilities. Their main goal was to have an integrated society. It was a very difficult time for African  Americans in those days, and they had to endure many abuses. Although, the national leadership has always been interracial, its membership has remained mostly African American. Thanks to their efforts and sacrifices, African Americans, minorities and the American society in general have been able to live in a much better equal and tolerant  country.
