To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in the South during 1940’s to 1960’s. At this point we were just entering into the Civil Rights Movement. The tone of the book is hope and promise for a better world. The setting affects the tone because at that time the South was very segregated. It affects the tone because during this time the South was known to be very racially separated. The setting makes the it harder for there to be hope and it doesn’t seem like it will change.
