Even when it was inspired by war events this monument was considered a peace monument, not a war monument as the others, it honored all of the soldiers who had died in battle and not only the ones in one side, besides it doesn't show any weapons or war paraphernalia.
It was also able to represent two words the Civil War and World War I because it didn't have anything that attached it to a specific War.
And finally, it has an image of an angel which represents peace.
