I live in Arizona so it might be different:

*State: Manages trade between other states (I might be wrong) or between other countries (ex. imports and exports)

Treasury: Manages a state's budget, spending, and income

Justice: Manages courts in their state; he/she is also the leading attorney for the state should the state be involved in court (ex. someone suing this state)

Interior: Manages the state's public lands (ex. parks, public libraries, museums, etc.)

Agriculture: Manages the state's farms and land used for crops; they often try to maintain their relationships with farmers

*Commerce: Manages a state's relationships with other states (ex. trade) *(Again, I might be wrong)

Labor: Manages the working citizens and fights for equal and fair pay, suitable working environments, basically everything related to the working class

Defense: (Every state has it's own small army, or militia; however, the President controls every state's small army) Manages the state's army; this army can be used to support other states (ex. if Michigan is having a tough time in a battle, neighboring states such as Illinois and Winsconsin can send troops to help Michigan)

Hope this helps and sorry if this doesn't.

Edit: These are the responsibilities since I don't know Michigan's secretaries.
