The New Mexico city of ALAMOGORDO was near the site of the first nuclear explosion in world history , called Trinity test.
The Trinity test was the first test of a nuclear weapon by the United States. It took place on July 16, 1945. It was the first explosion in the history of a weapon of this type. The detonated bomb used plutonium fissile material, like the one released later on Nagasaki, Japan.
The place chosen for the test was a remote area of Alamogordo, later known as White Sands. The place was located in the northern zone, between the towns of Carrizozo and San Antonio, New Mexico, in the Jornada del Muerto desert, in the southwest of the United States.
