quadratic formula

for the equation
ax^2+bx+c=0
x=[tex] \frac{-b+/- \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac} }{2a} [/tex]

we are given
x^2-4x+3=0
we don't need to use quadratc formula, we just factor into
(x-3)(x-1)=0
x=3 and 1
but if you want to use quadratic, ok

x^2-4x+3=0
a=1
b=-4
c=3
input
x=[tex] \frac{-(-4)+/- \sqrt{(-4)^{2}-4(1)(3)} }{2(1)} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{4+/- \sqrt{16-12} }{2} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{4+/- \sqrt{4} }{2} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{4+/- 2}{2} [/tex]
x=2+/-1
x=2+1 or 2-1
x=3 or 1
