Japan wanted that Joseon Dynasty(Korea) become his ally for they conquer Dinasty Ming(China), but they refused, Toyotomi Hideyoshi did not liked and sent his army to Korea, and so did Korea.

The Dutch had permanent colonies, and became close with the people, they had another way to approach people. Concentrating in the commerce, while the Portuguese wanted only conquer territories.

1) Japan invaded Korea because Japan wanted to travel through Korea to invade China. The invasions were initiated by Toyatomi Hideyoshi with the intention of conquering the Korean Peninsula and China, which were ruled by the Josan and Ming dynasties, respectively.

2) The Dutch established lasting friendships with the indigenous population that is why the Dutch were more successful in Southeast Asia than Portuguese. The friendship removed the hurdles and helped the Dutch to enjoy more power and success in Southeast Asia.
