The Most Dangerous Game is a short story written by Richard Connell. In the story, Rainsford is traveling off the coast of an island when he falls overboard and must swim to shore to save himself. The men aboard his boat call the island "Shiptrap Island" because many ships have never returned after dropping anchor there. Rainsford soon finds out why. The man who owns the island, General Zaroff, is an expert hunter. He enjoys the sport of hunting, but tells Rainsford that animals are not smart enough for him. The game of hunting is no longer enjoyable because he is too smart for his prey. However, he has found a solution - hunt people. Since Rainsford is known to also be an excellent hunter, General Zaroff is delighted that he will have such a strong opponent.
