Distinguish between the self report method and the projective method of personality assessment:
Self report method refers to the method wherein introspection is used in order to look into oneself and work out the flaws in your own self. Tests are used in order to see if you strongly agree or disagree with some concepts which help you get an idea of what personality you might have. A great example would be the MMPI test, first established in 1943. Its flaw is that you might be uncertain and put that you don’t have any opinion on the subject, which may lead to unsatisfactory results.
The projective method is an interesting one as it relies on a defensive mechanism of the brain in order to access and assess the unconscious processes of the brain. A great example would be the Rorschach Inkblot Test, where are series of inkblot cards are used to test what you may think of them and what they represent to you. It’s drawback is that it only helps you know about unconscious processes of your mind, while not telling much about your personality as such.
