Pat was an advid mountain biker who knew much about bicycle repair. Tom also was a mountain biker but did not know much about bicycles or their repair. The gears on Tom's bike were not working properly so he took his bike to Pat and asked if Pat could repair it. Pat said that was possible, so Tom left his bike with Pat for a week. Pat was able to fix and adjust the gears on Tom's bike so that the bike worked properly. Tom's bike was a top of the line model and much newer than Pat's bike. When Tom called Pat on Friday to see if the bike was ready for him to come pick up, Pat asked to keep the bike until Sunday. Pat wanted to try the bike out on Saturday with some friends. Tom told Pat that was okay to do. While Pat had the bike the bike was stolen off Pat's porch where Pat left the bike unlocked. Discuss whether Pat is liable to Tom for the loss of the bike.

When an object is borrowed to someone, this means the object has to be returned to the owner. The person who has borrowed the object is responsable to return it. Whatever happends inbetween, before or after doesn´t give away the responsability of what happends to that object.

Responsability is a matter in this case. When Pat asked if he can use the bike, he automatically asumed a responsability to return it and to take care of it.

Pat did not lock the bike when he left it in his porch, so one can say that even if this must definetly ocurred without intentionality. He is still responsable for the object lend.
