From the novel, we can see that there are many instances when the narrator have experienced death. One was when he was just about to fall in the pit, the other occurred when he was being sliced by the pendulum. The narrator describes his experience with such details which gives us goosebumps. The moment when we think its all over, that very moment when everything comes in a flash.
