George Elliot is simply saying that It is never to late to start something ( a dream or mabye a passion) that you havent begun yet. If you are feeling to old, ( like learning a cello per say) its never to late to "quote", " what you might have been" And start doing your passion. He is saying stop dreaming about what you "could've" become, and "become" it! No matter what age, what gender, what reason, etc. Elliots saying, "Dont look back on life when your seventy five and regret missing out on whatever you can become!"
