My independent reading selection was "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini. This story grabbed my attention because it has many diverse characters and an interesting plot. It also grabbed my attention because the setting of the story was placed in Middle Earth during medieval times. This story has soldiers, knights, farmers, and horses. The diverse characters that I liked were Saphira and Eragon. The plot was that_________

A boy named Eragon is the protagonist of the story. He discovers a mysterious stone, but does not understand what this is or what it can be used for. Later in the story, he discovers that the stone is actually an egg, and a dragon comes out of it. He names the dragon Saphira. However, a king called Galbatorix is looking for the egg, which forces Eragon and Saphira to flee. When Eragon meets a storyteller called Brom, he offers to teach Eragon about an extinct group called "The Riders."
