Write a paragraph that argues for or against a resolution in Congress to create a national monument for the pioneers who moved to the West in the 1850s and 1860s

Respuesta :

Answer: The proposed Grand Canyon Watershed National Monument would help the Advocates say it would protect the land from mining and create better tools for land managers to protect watersheds and habitat, but opponents argue it would reduce the rate of Utah's congressional delegation that has opposed the idea to be more efficient

Explanation:

Thesis:

I believe Congress should construct a national monument for the pioneers who moved to the West in the 1850s and 1860s. The many hardships they faced: hunger, disease, tiredness, attacks by Indians, and many more; they deserve to have a statue made in their name. Furthermore, they have extended American settlements to the Mississippi Valley. Lastly, the legacy of women pioneers has paved the way for more equal treatment for women all over the United States.

Body Paragraphs:

On their trek to the West, pioneers faced many situations in which they have had faced near-death experiences such as the terrible disease scurvy, attacks on the pioneers by Native Americans, wagon mishaps, and the common wildlife causing issues. No pioneer wanted to get scurvy as it was often deadly; it was caused by a lack of vitamin-c, and the lack of proper food and water supplies fueled the proper environment for the development of scurvy. Native American attacks were often fatal as well. For example, in the August of 1851, a group of Indians attacked a pioneer called Thomas Clark; the fight resulted in 3 deaths. Wagon mishaps, while not as fatal, were still as common. Wheels often got stuck in rivers and occasionally, men and women got swept away when trying to get it free.

The main motivation behind the westward expansion was that it meant freedom, which the pioneers so desperately wanted. The pioneers associated land ownership, farming, and westward migration with the possibility of independence and mobility for all. The mere perseverance, courage, and bravery of the 1,000 pioneers are extraordinary. They were forced to sell anything that they weren’t able to bring with them in exchange for supplies as well as a sturdy, covered wagon. The pioneers pushed American borders and we wouldn’t be where we are today if it weren’t for pioneers.

Today, pioneers aren’t given the credit they deserve. They have shaped America and have given Americans a strong foundation to start new cultures and practices. Their courage has pushed the frontiers to the limits and where we live today might not have been there if the pioneers had not expanded across it. These are only a few of the reasons Congress should build a statue for pioneers. Recently, Utah had a pioneers day on July 24th, which is a great day to have to appreciate pioneers and their work for America.
