After some research and from personal knowledge, one disadvantage of commencing a family business is that normal business relationships can be difficult to establish with family members.
We see this time and time again, especially on television shows that involve businesses, such as Restaurant Impossible, Bar Rescue, among others.
In each episode, many of the struggling businesses are family-owned, and it's failure lies in the hands of the relationship between the family. There's always lots of arguing between owners, typically sons and daughters who work in the business show a lack of interest because they want to do other things, as a result, causing the business to uphold little to no customer service.
And personally, starting a business with a loved one is just difficult because it'll be hard to maintain a strictly business relationship with them...they're your family!
To add, higher start up costs and less job satisfaction didn't make sense to me because there's no proof that a start up will cost more, especially with a family, since everyone can ship in. Then, less job satisfaction isn't a 100% guarentee...you might love it!
