Hu Yaobang was a high ranking officer who supported and worked towards the introduction of democracy and reformations in China. Though a former member of the Communist Party, his actions and beliefs vastly impressed and influenced the students and general masses but was a direct contradiction to the belief of the Communist leaders. So, he was blamed for the massive outbreak of student protests all through the country, for instilling the idea of democratic reforms in China. He died of a heart attack on April 15, 1989. His death led to the Tiananmen Square protests which led to the massacre.
