The Iroquois constitution was a type of document that represented a strong political and social organization of the Cayuga, Onondaga, Mohawk, Oneida, Seneca and Tuscarora nations. This constitution was established long before European colonists arrived on the American continent, which shows that the natives had a very well-established and organized civilization, even without having the standards of European civilizations.
This constitution had guidelines on maintaining positions within the tribes, the deposition of corrupt leaders, the organizational structure of the confederation, in addition to establishing a bicameral system of legislature, precepts for declaring war and balancing power between established positions.
