Also if the poem talks about him moving from his homeland, Africa to America, it relates to the biblical reference of Cain since both of them moved as a result of something? Originally, black meant evil, and since Cain committed the first murder, he was evil. She was brought over, and taught about God, and found out how evil we human beings really are because of our fallen nature. She was saying that we all are as evil as Cain.
