A.) Angela has 15 books
B.) Sabrina has 33
First I set up an equation. There is a total of 45 books. So the equation will be set equal to 45. Since we know Sabrina has 2 times as many books as Angela it would be used as 2x (x represents the books, there is an x because we don’t know the exact number Sabrina has).
So far this is the equation:
2x=45
Now we need to incorporate how many books Angela has. Since we don’t know how many she has we’ll use x (remember x represents the number of books when we don’t know the exact amount).
Equation:
X+2x=45
Now we can combine like terms. The x and 2x can add together to equal 3x.
Equation:
3x=45
Now we need to get the x by itself so we can get the exact amount of books. We can do this by dividing each side my 3.
Equation:
X=15
This represents the number of books Angela has. She had 15 books.
To get the number of books Sabrina has you have to go back to the problem which says Sabrina has 2 times the number of books that Angela has. So you have to multiple the 15 books Angela has by 2
Equation:
15(2)
This equals 30. So Sabrina has 30 books.
To check this I did 15+30 which equals to 45. That’s the total books they have in the original problem.
I hope this helps
