Middle Ages or medieval periods were characterized by serfdom. The serfs were involved in the agricultural practices and paid the rent to the lord for living on their land.
The characteristics of the serfdom can be explained as:
1. Serfdom was the many peasants under feudalism. Serfs occupied the lands where they worked and paid the money for living and working there.
2. Serfdom was forced labor, which took place for several centuries prior to slavery. The serfs were bound by the land they occupy for several generations.
