is this sentence mean the narrator was kind or not kind to the old man?

it means he wasn't kind to the old man because saying he wasn't never kinder to the man during the whole week then killed him 
it basically means the narrator wasn't being kind to the old man because the narrator killed the old man and that wasn't kind of the narrator
