The north was mainly industrilized (factories, etc.) and the south‘s income depended on agriculture (farming, cotton, etc.) which basically meant one side didn’t relied on slaves while the south was economically reliant on slaves. There was slavery protests in the north to try and end slavery. And when Abe Lincoln started being the 16th president of the United States, the souther states one by one started secceding front he union and wanted to form their own country. When confederate solders (the south) fired on a barley fortified fort with no ammunition, it wa considered the start of the civil war.
