The basic unit of hereditary is the gene. Particularly, genes are located on chromosomes that are made of DNA. In order words, genes make up the DNA, while DNA makes up the chromosomes.
In the DNA, genes exist as genetic codes with each code specifying a particular amino acid. In order for genes to be expressed, the information on DNA are first transcribed to mRNA and the genetic codes are then translated to their respective amino acids linked together by peptide bonds.
