Module Six Art Critique Instructions
Answer the following questions about the painting to the right
1 in at least four to five sentences describe
everything you see in the painting Observe how
many figures are depicted and how they are
arranged. Notice the objects in the background as
well Describe what you see, but don't analyze or
interpret the scene just yet. We'll address
interpretation in later critiques
2. Use the title to help you identify the subject
matter Review the Module One Lecture for
examples of the different categories of subjects.
3. Identify the degree of abstraction and briefly
explain how the artist used at least one element
(line, shape, value, color, texture, or space) to
establish that type of representation Review the
Module One Lecture for samples of abstraction,
and use the Modules Two through Five lectures if
you need to review the elements of art
4. Briefly explain how the technique of proximity
establishes the principle of unity in the painting.
