There are 3 branches: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. The Legislative branch creates the laws, and includes Congress, the House of Representatives, and the Senate. The Executive branch carries out laws (or executes them - a good way to remember) and includes the president and vice president, Cabinet, and most of the federal agencies. The Judicial branch evaluates the laws (determines whether constitutional or unconstitutional) and includes the Supreme Court and other courts. These 3 branches organize the powers because if the Legislative branch makes a law, the president can veto it or the Judicial branch can rule it unconstitutional.
